Petit Pois Cakes at Selfridges

Introducing courgette in a cake! No, we’ve not gone mad. Harry Eastwood, star of Channel 4’s ‘Cook Yourself Thin’, is expanding her passion for low-calorie gourmet goods. Harry has teamed up with American entrepreneur Ashley Maddox to launch Petit Pois, a range of mouth-watering cakes made using vegetables instead of butter and some of the sugar, exclusively at Selfridges from 15 March 2011.

Petit Pois cupcakes are a celebration of cake, not sugary icing, using all natural ingredients of the highest quality – free range eggs, 70% cocoa chocolate, real vanilla bean and unwaxed citrus fruit – in four flavours: Vanilla, Chocolate, Lemon and Orange. Each cake has just the thinnest layer of icing and is topped with a little green pea to indicate that it’s genuinely good for you. Not unlike the red tab on the back pocket of a pair of Levi’s, the green pea carries a message of consistent high quality. Petit Pois cakes are delectable, healthy, stylish, honest, mischievous, and let’s just say it: full of vegetables!
The magic of Petit Pois cakes lies in the fact that no one who eats them would ever guess that they were full of pumpkin, courgette or beetroot. Even more so, no-one would know that there’s more grated vegetable in Petit Pois cakes than any other single ingredient. It’s the presence of the secret vegetables that also give Petit Pois cakes an extended shelf life – unlike butter that stiffens as it sits, the vegetables continue to moisturise and sweeten the cakes days after being made. Petit Pois are the only cakes on the market that actually improve as they sit on the shelf, and the only range that is completely gluten-free, lactose-free, and blessed with less than half the calories of normal cupcakes.

As both a passionate foodie and a self-confessed kitchen nerd, Harry tested the recipes for Petit Pois cakes over and over again in her tiny kitchen in Paris, until she got the cakes just right. Ashley led the charge on the business side, naming the brand and developing beautiful packaging. Two women on a quest to bring healthy, delicious and fun treats to the cake-lovers of Britain.

Petit Pois cakes will be available in Selfridges Foodhalls from 15 March 2011, priced £5 for a box of two.

Ooooh, they do look good, but I’d call them fairy cakes rather than cupcakes. Cupcakes to me are those oversized, over-sweet and completely overblown lurid confections that don’t look like anything I’d actually want to put in my mouth. These look a lot more like actual food!

I was lucky to find this website.
Aw, this is a really quality post. In theory I’d like to write like this too – taking time and real effort to make a good article… but what can I say… I prolong alot and never seem to get something done.
