JUNI recognised by Michelin New York- Shaun Hergatt and his team are awarded a Michelin star 14 months after opening

We are delighted to share the news that Chef Shaun Hergatt and his team at JUNI are shining in the shadows beneath the Empire State Building and joining the exclusive group of restaurants awarded a coveted star by the Michelin Guide New York.

Since JUNI opened its doors in August 2013, Australian Hergatt and his team have had their sights set firmly on recognition from the industry’s most prestigious arbiters of excellence. Today’s welcome news is just reward for the team’s solid dedication over the past 14 months. On hearing the news, Chef Shaun Hergatt said;

“I am honoured that Michelin New York have recognised JUNI. Our goal is to make lifetime memories for our guests and I think that working with this in mind has won us this star.” 

At JUNI, Chef Hergatt and his team offer a deeply personal but highly technical dining experience making for lifetime memories. Each dish takes inspiration from Hergatt’s childhood in rural Queensland, Australia and echo the beauty of the natural surroundings he grew up in. His menus are acutely responsive to micro seasons, meaning a dish could be on the menu for as little as a couple of weeks when it’s ingredients are at their ripest, before being retired for the year.

It’s not the first time that the restaurant, located in Hotel Chandler, just north of Manhattan’s Flatiron district has been commended. In 2013, Esquire Magazine awarded it with the Best New Restaurant Award and then, earlier this year, it was crowned with a Best Of Award of Excellence by The Wine Spectator.

No stranger to Michelin stars, after holding two while head chef at SHO, Shaun Hergatt has ambition to take JUNI even further and shows no signs of slowing down in his pursuit of excellence.
